SEAWARD SAFETY EXPANDS ITS SERVICE TO RENEWABLE ENERGY SECTOR

Part of the EXHEAT Group, Seaward Safety supplies safety signage to the energy sector, including fire control, hazard warnings, platform identification, anti-slip markings and much more.

Headquartered in Lowestoft with an additional office in Houston, Texas, the company also has agents in China, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Korea facilitating a worldwide service that entails survey and installation, with fully customisable signage tailored to client requirements.

SPR promotes new entrants to the market and engages with SMEs, with the Seaward Safety contract being a clear example of it. Along with bringing in new players, SPR places importance on supporting the Just Transition through exploring partnerships and awarding contracts to suppliers wanting to diversify. In this instance, SPR pursued a direct contract instead of a subcontract via the EA ONE O&M provider, this allowed for further control over invitations to tender, encouraging new players.

Ian Williams commented on the expansion from the oil and gas sector to renewables: “Offshore wind is an ever-growing market both in the UK and globally. Our experience with the oil and gas industry is easily transferred to offshore wind projects and our team can bring vast knowledge to aid any future or existing facilities.”

Following an initial survey, Seaward Safety’s scope included providing general safety signage, life-saving appliance plans, cabin plans, safety awareness system boards and anti-slip walkway markings for East Anglia ONE substation.

UK regulatory standards state that for Offshore Renewable Energy Installations (OREIs) individual turbines must be marked with a unique alphanumeric identifier which should be clearly visible at a range of 150 metres. Seaward Safety has therefore produced a new type of identification sign for wind turbines– Transition Piece Name Plates. The sign is placed on the base of a wind turbine where it transitions from below the water to above the surface and can be illuminated or reflective.

COLLABORATING FOR GROWTH PLAYBOOK

After celebrating 25 years in business, Seaward Safety is looking to the future by expanding its offering to the offshore wind market. As part of its growth into the renewable sector, Seaward Safety secured a contract with Scottish Power Renewables for East Anglia ONE.

“We are so pleased to be awarded this project, especially given its operating location,” managing director Ian Williams has previously explained.
